Abstract
The invention comprises a sensor system that detects irregular wheel movement and monitors wheel tightness. The system includes a displacement sensor integrated into a Microelectronic Mechanical System (MEMS), i.e., a MEMS displacement sensor, which can be strategically placed between the wheel and the brake disc or between each wheel bolt and the brake disc. The sensor continuously monitors wheel tightness and communicates wirelessly with a vehicle computer. If potential wheel looseness is detected, the system alerts the driver with a message on the instrument panel and can also communicate with other Electronic Control Units (ECUs) in the vehicle to automatically reduce the vehicle speed to a safe level.
