Abstract

This disclosure describes an electrospinning apparatus designed to generate nanofibers with a controlled trajectory using a novel XYZ configuration. This system employs induced electric fields to orient and collimate the electrified fluid jet that forms the polymer nanofibers. The apparatus includes horizontal and vertical deflector plates in the X and Y directions, connected to a function generator that modulates electrical signals to guide the polymer jet after the formation of the Taylor cone. It also allows for adjustment of the membrane thickness in the X and Y directions. The high voltage applied in the electrospinning process, along with the deflector plates, enables the precise deposition of nanofibers in complex patterns, such as Lissajous figures.This technology is especially suitable for creating nanofiber membranes for biomedical and industrial applications, providing advances in precision control, scalability and versatile material handling, emulating a 3D printing system for polymer fibers.
