Abstract
The present invention describes a method for designing M-APSK constellations for application in digital communication systems. The constellations consist of concentric circles with radii determined by the golden ratio, defined as (π = (1 + x / 5) / 2), optimizing the distribution of binary symbols to improve performance in terms of bit error rate (BER) versus signal-to-noise ratio (SNR / NR). The invention comprises a method for defining the radii of the concentric circles using the golden ratio and distributing the symbols within these circles uniformly with specific phase shifts relative to the in-phase axis (I-axis). The radii of the constellations defined by the golden ratio can be energy normalized while preserving their properties. As an application, the implementation and comparison against the 16-APSK and 32-APSK constellations used in the DVB-S2 standard is carried out, and it is observed that this method presents better performance for all coding rates of the DVB-S2 standard, significantly improving performance in terms of bit error rate and signal-to-noise ratio.
