Method for automating filling and packaging flat retaining inserts

Abstract

A method for automating the filling and packaging of flat retaining inserts is carried out on a mounting line including three stations. A first station includes a compartment for storing a plurality of stacked planar retaining inserts. A second station includes a folding mechanism configured to fold the flat retention insert into various orientations to facilitate retention of a product. A third station retains a shipping container where the flat retention insert can be placed with a product retained therein for shipping. Pistons with pistons are used to remove a flat retention insert from the compartment, transport it to the folding mechanism, facilitate insertion of a product and transport of the product and the flat retention insert to the shipping container.
