Abstract

Examples of disclosed engine-driven power systems include: an engine configured to emit mechanical power; a generator configured to convert the mechanical power into first electrical power; an energy storage device configured to be charged using the first electrical power and to discharge stored energy to emit second electrical power; and a control circuit configured to: determine a load on the engine and an engine speed; and control the charging or discharging of the energy storage device to increase engine fuel efficiency based on a predetermined relationship between load on the engine, engine speed, and engine fuel consumption.
