NATURAL EXTRACT MADE WITH DEEP EUTECTIC SOLVENT THAT INCLUDES ONE OR MORE COMPOUNDS OF THE POMEGRANATE

Abstract

Polyphenols are biologically relevant phytochemicals found in pomegranates (Punica granatum L.) and their residues (such as the peel). Solvent extraction has been the primary strategy for their recovery. Aqueous and / or methanolic extracts of pomegranate peel contain mainly hydrolyzable tannins, phenolic acids, and, in lower concentrations, some anthocyanins. However, the use of extracts obtained from traditional organic solvents could cause toxicity, as these solvents accompany the natural compounds in residual amounts. As an alternative, the use of deep eutectic solvents has gained prominence. Because they are composed of mixtures of self-associated components with low or no toxicity, solvent removal is unnecessary, thus avoiding additional steps.Due to the above, the natural extract made with deep eutectic solvents, which includes one or more compounds derived from pomegranate, is unique compared to other investments; presenting operational advantages for its use and incorporation in formulations within a wide spectrum of industries.
