Abstract
A welding system comprises: a power conversion circuit configured to output welding power to a welding circuit; a voltage sensor configured to measure a voltage from the welding circuit; and a control circuit configured to: control the power conversion circuit to output welding power according to one or more first welding parameters; monitor the measured voltage during a background phase to determine whether a short-circuit event occurred in the welding circuit by detecting that the measured voltage is greater than an anomalous cathodic event voltage threshold; in response to determining that the short-circuit event occurred, determine one or more second welding parameters based on one or more short-circuit parameters from the short-circuit event; and control the power conversion circuit to output welding power according to one or more second welding parameters.
