Abstract

The present invention relates to a genetic vaccine comprising a DNA plasmid containing a synthetic sequence called Bm86-Mx1, designed from epitopes of the Bm86 protein of Mexican strains of Rhipicephalus microplus. The sequence is linked to an expression vector. The vaccine is administered by intradermal injection, followed by electroporation, to facilitate cellular uptake of the plasmid DNA and expression of the antigen. Expression of the Bm86-Mx1 sequence induces the production of specific antibodies capable of recognizing both the recombinant protein and the native protein present in the tick. The invention provides a technical alternative for the control of R. microplus by incorporating a sequence designed based on regional genetic variability.
