Abstract
The present invention relates to a therapeutic dressing comprising an alginate-based biopolymer matrix and a bioactive component derived from forensically important larvae, with antimicrobial activity. The dressing is obtained by homogeneously mixing the biopolymer with the larval extract, forming a semi-solid, flexible structure that can be sized from 5 to 50 mm in diameter, preferably 7 mm, and is not limited in shape, being a disc, sheet, hydrogel, or flexible semi-solid material. The resulting dressing allows the release of the bioactive component onto the application surface, exhibiting biocompatibility and demonstrated in vitro antimicrobial activity, which can contribute to the prevention of microbial growth in wounds. The invention is applicable in the treatment of skin lesions susceptible to infection by inhibiting the growth of microorganisms.
