Abstract

A method for reducing the viscosity of a hydrocarbon and a reduced-viscosity hydrocarbon composition are described. The viscosity reduction is achieved by contacting naphthalene with the hydrocarbon in a naphthalene-to-hydrocarbon weight ratio of 1:7,000 to 1:30,000. The reduction in viscosity is achieved immediately upon adding the naphthalene to the hydrocarbon.
