Abstract

This disclosure relates to an image processing device and method that enables the use of an encoding tool for bit depth extension while maintaining compatibility with a specification that does not extend the bit depth of an image. An operating range extension flag is encoded according to a bit depth of an image, and the control information for the operating range extension tool is encoded according to the operating range extension flag. Alternatively, the operating range extension flag and the control information for the operating range extension tool are encoded according to a bit depth of an image.This disclosure may apply, for example, to an image processing device, an image encoding device, an image decoding device, a transmission device, a receiving device, a transmission and reception device, an information processing device, an image forming device, a reproduction device, an electronic device, an image processing method, an information processing method, and the like.
