Abstract

An apparatus (1) for weighing poultry on a conveyor line (2), comprising carriers (3) for the poultry, said carriers (3) being connected to each other by a drive chain (12) of the conveyor line (2), the conveyor line (2) comprising at least a curved rail section (2') and a weighing rail section (2"), wherein a weighing station is situated along the weighing rail section (2"), and wherein the apparatus (1) further comprises a chain tension control mechanism that relieves tension in the drive chain (12) at or near the weighing station along the weighing rail section (2"), wherein the chain tension control mechanism compresses a rotating wheel (6) having its circumference following the curved rail section (2') and passing through the weighing rail section (2"),whose rotating wheel (6) supports a series of engagement units (5) that engage the chain (12) and / or the carriers (3) in the curved rail section (2') to tension the chain (12) and disengage the chain (12) and / or the carriers (3) in the weighing rail section (2") to release tension on the chain (12).
