Abstract

This application relates to compositions comprising (E)-1,2,3,3,3-pentafluoro-1-propene (i.e., R-1225ye(E) or HFO-1225ye(E)), R-32, and optionally one or more additional components, which are useful in refrigeration, air conditioning, or heat pump systems. Methods for replacing R-134a or R-513A in refrigeration, air conditioning, or heat pump systems are also provided.

Claims

1. A composition characterized in that it comprises (E) 1,2,3,3,3-pentafluoro-l-propene and R-32.

2. The composition according to claim 1, characterized in that it comprises approximately 85 to approximately 95 percent by weight of (E)-1,2,3,3,3pentafluoro-l-propene and approximately 15 to approximately 5 percent by weight of R-32.

3. The composition according to claim 1, characterized in that it comprises approximately 90 percent by weight of (E)-1,2,3,3,3-pentafluoro-l-propene and approximately 10 percent by weight of R-32.

4. The composition according to claim 1, characterized in that it further comprises a compound selected from HFO-1234yf, R-125, and CO2, or any mixture thereof.

5. The composition according to claim 4, characterized in that it comprises approximately 40 to approximately 95 percent by weight of (E)-1,2,3,3,3pentafluoro-l-propene.

6. The composition according to claim 4, characterized in that it comprises approximately 2 to approximately 12 percent by weight of R-32.

7. The composition according to claim 4, characterized in that it comprises approximately 41 to approximately 48 percent by weight of HFO-1234yf.

8. The composition according to claim 4, characterized in that it comprises approximately 1 to approximately 6 percent by weight of R-125.

9. The composition according to claim 4, characterized in that it comprises approximately 1 to approximately 3 percent by weight of CO2.

10. The composition according to claim 4, characterized in that it comprises (E)-1,2,3,3,3-pentafluoro-1propene, R-32, HFO-1234yf, and R-125.

The composition according to claim 10, characterized in that it comprises approximately 41 to approximately 49 wt percent of (E)-1,2,3,3,3pentafluoro-l-propene, approximately 2 to approximately 12 wt percent of R-32, approximately 41 to approximately 48 wt percent of HFO-1234yf, and approximately 1 to approximately 6 wt percent of R125.

The composition according to claim 10, characterized in that it comprises approximately 44 to approximately 47 percent by weight of (E)-1,2,3,3,3-70 pentafluoro-l-propene, approximately 4 to approximately 8 percent by weight of R-32, approximately 44 to approximately 47 percent by weight of HFO-1234yf, and approximately 2 to approximately 4 percent by weight of R125.

13. The composition according to claim 12, characterized in that it has a GWP less than approximately 150.

The composition according to claim 13, characterized in that it comprises approximately 46 to approximately 47 percent by weight of (E)-1,2,3,3,3pentafluoro-l-propene, approximately 4 to approximately 6 percent by weight of R-32, approximately 45 to approximately 47 percent by weight of HFO-1234yf, and approximately 2 to approximately 3 percent by weight of R125.

15. The composition according to claim 4, characterized in that it comprises (E)-1,2,3,3,3-pentafluoro-1propene, R-32, HFO-1234yf, and CO2.

The composition according to claim 15, characterized in that it comprises approximately 46 to approximately 49 percent by weight of (E)-1,2,3,3,3pentafluoro-l-propene, approximately 2 to approximately 6 percent by weight of R-32, approximately 45 to approximately 48 percent by weight of HFO-1234yf, and approximately 1 to approximately 3 percent by weight of CO2.

17. The composition according to claim 16, characterized in that it has a GWP less than approximately 150.

The composition according to claim 17, characterized in that it comprises approximately 47 to approximately 49 percent by weight of (E)-1,2,3,3,3pentafluoro-l-propene, approximately 2 to approximately 4 percent by weight of R-32, approximately 47 to approximately 48 percent by weight of HFO-1234yf, and approximately 1 to approximately 2 percent by weight of CO2.

19. The composition according to claim 4, characterized in that it comprises (E)-1,2,3,3,3-pentafluoro-1propene, R-32, HFO-1234yf, R-125, and CO2.

The composition according to claim 19, characterized in that it comprises approximately 43 to approximately 47 percent by weight of (E)-1,2,3,3,3-pentafluoro-l-propene, approximately 4 to approximately 10 percent by weight of R-32, approximately 42 to approximately 47 percent by weight of HFO-1234yf, approximately 1 to approximately 4 percent by weight of R125, and approximately 1 to approximately 2 percent by weight of CO2.

21. The composition according to claim 20, characterized in that it has a GWP less than approximately 150.

The composition according to claim 21, characterized in that it comprises approximately 44 to approximately 47 percent by weight of (E)-1,2,3,3,3pentafluoro-l-propene, approximately 4 to approximately 8 percent by weight of R-32, approximately 44 to approximately 47 percent by weight of HFO-1234yf, approximately 1 to approximately 2 percent by weight of R125, and approximately 1 to approximately 2 percent by weight of CO2.

The composition according to claim 21, characterized in that it comprises approximately 46 to approximately 47 percent by weight of (E)-1,2,3,3,3pentafluoro-l-propene, approximately 4 to approximately 6 percent by weight of R-32, approximately 45 to approximately 47 percent by weight of HFO-1234yf, approximately 1 to approximately 2 percent by weight of R125, and approximately 1 to approximately 1 percent by weight of CO2.

24. A process for producing cooling, characterized in that it comprises condensing the composition according to claim 1 and thereafter evaporating the composition near a body to be cooled.

25. A process for producing heating, characterized in that it comprises evaporating the composition according to claim 1 and thereafter condensing the composition near a body to be heated.

26. A method for replacing R-134a or R-513A in a refrigeration, air conditioning or heat pump system, characterized in that it comprises providing the composition according to claim 1 as a replacement for R134a or R-513A.

27. An air conditioning system, heat pump system, or refrigeration system, characterized in that it comprises the composition according to claim 1.

28. The air conditioning system, heat pump system, or refrigeration system according to claim 27, characterized in that it comprises an evaporator, compressor, condenser, and expansion device.

29. The air conditioning system, heat pump system, or refrigeration system according to claim 27, characterized in that it comprises one or more heat exchangers operating in countercurrent mode or crosscurrent mode with a tendency to countercurrent.

30. A process for producing cooling, characterized in that it comprises condensing the composition according to claim 4 and thereafter evaporating the composition near a body to be cooled.

31. A process for producing heating, characterized in that it comprises evaporating the composition according to claim 4 and thereafter condensing the composition near a body to be heated.

32. A method for replacing R-134a or R-513A in a refrigeration, air conditioning, or heat pump system, characterized in that it comprises providing the composition according to claim 4 as a replacement for R134a or R-513A.

33. An air conditioning system, heat pump system, or refrigeration system, characterized in that it comprises the composition according to claim 4.

34. The air conditioning system, heat pump system, or refrigeration system according to claim 33, characterized in that it comprises an evaporator, compressor, condenser, and expansion device.

35. The air conditioning system, heat pump system, or refrigeration system according to claim 33, characterized in that it comprises one or more heat exchangers operating in countercurrent mode or crosscurrent mode with a tendency to countercurrent.

36. A method for replacing R-134a or R-513A in a refrigeration, air conditioning or heat pump system, characterized in that it comprises providing (E)-1,2,3,3,3pentafluoro-l-propene as a replacement for R-134a or R-513A.
