AUTOMATED BRADING MACHINE

Abstract

An automated braiding machine for applying a braided covering to an elongated structure includes a cylinder through which the elongated structure passes and an orbital bobbin assembly configured to orbit a plurality of bobbins around the cylinder. Each bobbin unwinds a corresponding yarn having a portion that extends between an edge of the cylinder and the elongated structure. A first robotic arm assembly is configured to pull the elongated structure in a longitudinal direction. The speed at which the elongated structure is pulled in its longitudinal direction depends on a measured angle of one of the yarn portions relative to a plane defined by the edge of the cylinder.
