Abstract
The Microclimate Farming Project is designed to combat food insecurity in rural areas of Coahuila through self-sufficient greenhouses. Using the Walipini design, these greenhouses regulate temperature naturally with earthen walls and employ hydroponic systems that reduce water usage by 80%. The necessary energy comes from solar panels and wind turbines, while atmospheric condensers recover almost all the water required. In the first phase, potatoes and tomatoes will be cultivated, and in the second, chicken coops will be introduced for egg production. The third phase incorporates a biodigester to fertilize the soil and use methane gas as an energy source. The goal is to demonstrate the viability of the model and promote its adoption by the government to ensure its implementation and support food self-sufficiency in rural communities. This project also contributes to the sustainability goals of the Strategy for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity of Coahuila.
