Setup for biological treatment of wastewater

Abstract

The present invention provides a novel setup of plants and bacteria to treat wastewater. The setup involves a solid separator (14), a first basin (16) with substrates and a second basin (18). The solid separator (14) is setup to receive and reduce solids in the wastewater. The first basin (16) with substrates receives wastewater from the solid separator (14). The first basin (26) with substrate is adapted to be conducive to aquaponic plants and bacteria that reduces nitrates. The first basin (16) supplies nitrate-reduced water to the second basin (18) and the solid separator (14). The second basin (18) is adapted to be conducive to plants that perform phytoremediation to reduce nitrates and heavy metal. Treated water from the second basin (18) has relatively safe level of nitrates for agriculture use.
