Fluided bed caged immobilizer

Abstract

The present invention relates to a fluidized bed bioreactor with enhanced fluidization. More particularly, the fluidized bed bioreactor (100) comprising: (a) a vessel body (200) comprising a top end (201), a bottom end (202) and an interior cavity defined by an outer wall (203), the top end (201) has an outlet (204) while the bottom end (202) is closed-ended; (b) an inner column (300) disposed within the interior cavity, the inner column (300) comprising an upper end (301), a lower end (302) and a columnar side wall defining an inner region within the inner column, the columnar sidewall separating the inner region from an outer region within the interior cavity, wherein the inner column (300) are configured with circular, porous flanges (303) extending perpendicular and towards the outer region hence forming a confined area (304) for retaining an immobilizer therein; (c) a shaft (400) located at the inner region of the inner column (300) and substantially extending beyond the lower end (302) thereof, in which the shaft (400) is attached with a combination of axial impellers (401), radial impellers (402) and a power source; and (d) a gas sparger tube (500) located along the lower end (302) of the inner column (300), in which the gas sparger tube (500) connects to an external source, wherein upon operation fluid in the bioreactor forms a circulation pattern between the inner region and the outer region, in which fluid flows from a medium inlet (305) and a chemical inlet (306) through the inner region of the inner column (300) and exits at its lower end (302) in vicinity to the radial impellers (402) hence being guided to flow upwards at the outer region and circulates back into the inner region.
