A fish pellet from spent mushroom block and cabbage

Abstract

The mushroom industries and farmers are producing a large amount of spent mushroom block and vegetable waste. High humidity conditions in Malaysia will promote fungal growth on the wastes, which might adversely affect the environment if the waste is not rapidly and properly recycled. Thus, present invention used the wastes to produce fish pellet. The fish pellet comprising 25% (w / w) spent mushroom block or spent mushroom substrate from oyster mushroom and 25% (w / w) cabbage as main composition. The present invention recorded nutrient composition values, feed conversion ratio (FCR) and protein efficiency retention (PER) that were almost equivalent to the control diet and better than the other alternatives. Fish fed with the present invention shows better growth and health than other experimental pellets. This present invention can reduce agriculture waste in the future.
