Method for land use and land cover classification using machine learning classification model

Abstract

The present invention discloses a method for land use and land cover classification. The method comprises the steps of receiving surface reflectance data comprising satellite images associated with a geographical area; generating mean composites for the satellite images; subjecting the mean composites to a cloud masking; subjecting the mean composites to a machine learning classification model selected from a group comprising a random forest algorithm, an adaptive boosting algorithm, a gradient boosting algorithm, and any combinations thereof; and retrieving a land use, a land cover, or any combinations thereof of the geographical area resulting from the machine learning classification model thereof.
