Method and apparatus for cellular gateway

Abstract

Disclosed is a gateway apparatus (200) comprising: a plurality of antennas (204, 206, 208), at least two of the antennas (204, 206, 208) having different gains and operating on signals in different frequency bands; and a plurality of modems (214, 216,218), each connected to one of the plurality of antennas (204,206,208). A method to provide a network connection to the gateway apparatus (200) comprises: providing a plurality of antennas (204, 206, 208), at least two of the antennas (204, 206, 208) having different gains and operating on signals from different frequency bands; providing a plurality of modems (214,216,218), each modem being in data connection to a different one of the plurality of antennas (204, 206, 208); and establishing a communication link between each antenna and a respective selected base station, wherein at least two of the base stations (224, 226,228) are located in different area cells or are from different mobile networks.
