Abstract

In a control device of a hybrid electric vehicle in which are installed an internal combustion engine (1) and an electric motor (4) as power sources, when the internal combustion engine (1) that is stopped is started, motoring of the internal combustion engine (1) is performed in a state with an opening degree of a throttle valve (132) initially reduced, following which firing is started and the opening degree of the throttle valve (132) is widened, and with a current vehicle speed being a low speed that is no greater than a threshold value as a prerequisite, when starting the internal combustion engine (1), a period during which the opening degree of the throttle valve (132) is reduced is made to be shorter, or a speed at which the opening degree of the throttle valve (132) is widened is made to be slower, than when the prerequisite is not satisfied.
