Abstract

The present invention relates to an anticancer peptide derived from a mauriporin peptide having an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO. 1, wherein the glycine residue at position G5 is substituted by an amino acid selected from alanine, leucine or isoleucine, and wherein the glycine residue at position G4 is optionally substituted by an amino acid selected from alanine or leucine. The present invention also relates to the use of the anticancer peptide in the manufacture of a medicament for treating a cancer selected from the group consisting of prostate cancer, colon cancer and lung cancer. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising an anticancer peptide derived from a mauriporin peptide of SEQ ID NO. 1 and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, wherein the glycine residue at position G5 in the anticancer peptide is substituted by an amino acid selected from alanine, leucine or isoleucine, and wherein the glycine residue in the anticancer peptide at position G4 is optionally substituted by an amino acid selected from alanine or leucine.
