A biomass fuel pellet and a method for producing thereof

Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for producing a biomass fuel pellet, the method comprises the steps of providing a biomass material and reducing average particle diameter thereof, simultaneously grinding and washing the biomass material in the presence of water to obtain a refined and washed biomass fibre having an average particle diameter of less than 0.3 mm, dewatering the washed biomass fibre in a step-wise manner to obtain a dewatered biomass fibre having a moisture content of less than 50%, drying the dewatered biomass fibre without applying external heat to obtain a dried biomass fibre having a moisture content of less than 15% and pelletizing the dried biomass fibre to obtain a biomass fuel pellet. The present invention also relates to a biomass fuel pellet produced from the aforementioned method that comprises an oil palm biomass fibre having an average particle diameter of less than 0.3 mm and a moisture content of less than 15%.
