Abstract

ABSTRACT A NEAR-MID-INFRARED FIBER LASER SYSTEM The present invention relates to a fiber laser system (100) comprising an optical pump source (10) configured to emit a pump beam at a wavelength range of 966 to 986 nm; an antireflective coated lens (11) configured to collimate the pump beam emitted by the optical pump source (10); a beam-splitting mirror (12) configured to reflect the collimated pump beam from the antireflective coated lens (11); an erbium-doped fluoride glass fiber (13) configured to receive the pump beam through an input facet, amplify the pump beam to generate emission light, and emits the emission light through an output facet; a pair of plano-convex lens, wherein a first plano-convex lens (14a) is positioned at the input facet of the erbium-doped fluoride glass fiber (13) to focus the reflected pump beam by the beam-splitting mirror (12) into the erbium-doped fluoride glass fiber (13), and a second plano-convex lens (14b) is positioned at the output facet of the erbium-doped fluoride glass fiber (13) to collimate the emission light as it exits the fiber; and a fiber collimator (15) configured to focus the collimated emission light from the second plano-convex lens (14b); wherein both the input facet and the output facet of the erbium-doped fluoride glass fiber (13) are perpendicularly cleaved, creating 4% Fresnel reflection for generating emission light at a wavelength range of 2.7 to 2.8 µm.
