Abstract

Techniques for precisely locating signal contacts on card edge interfaces are described. An example cable assembly includes a housing with a datum pillar positioned along a side wall of the housing. The datum pillar includes a locating ridge extending from an outer surface of the datum pillar. A printed circuit board (PCB) in the cable assembly includes an interlock notch. The datum pillar of the housing occupies open space within the interlock notch of the PCB, and the locating ridge of the datum pillar sets or determines a location of the PCB with respect to the housing. The locating ridge sets the location of the PCB based on a mechanical interference between the locating ridge and a peripheral edge of the interlock notch of the PCB. The locating ridge also sets a location of a leading contact edge of a signal contact on a front edge of the PCB. Fig. 1A
