Description
_ l _ Espagnolette The present invention relates to an espagnolette for a door or window, comprising a handle and an adjustment mechanism coupled to the handle, the adjustment mechanism being linked to at least one bolt or bolt connector that are arranged to drive a rod or rods to secure a closure of the door or window. Espagnolette locking systems are widely used in doors and windows, occasionally to provide enhanced security through multipoint locking mechanisms. These systems typically comprise a handle connected to bolts or bolt connectors for rods that engage with locking points distributed along an external frame of the door or window. When the handle is rotated or turned, the rods are driven by the bolts or bolt connectors and are actuated to engage or disengage from these locking points, securing or releasing the door or window. Conventional espagnolette systems require significant space for the movement of the bolt or bolt connectors within the frame of the door or window, which can be a design limitation in modern doors and windows where space efficiency and minimalistic aesthetics are preferred. The present invention aims to address the abovementioned limitations and to provide an espagnolette enabling a sleek appearance when the same is mounted in the frame of the door or window. The espagnolette of the invention is therefore provided with the features of one or more of the appended claims. In a first aspect of the invention, the adjustment mechanism comprises a rotatable cam and a slide which is coupled to the at least one bolt or bolt connector, wherein the cam is rotatable _ 2 _ between a locked position and an unlocked position, said cam comprising a protrusion that is positioned in a curved groove of the slide, wherein rotation of the cam drives the protrusion along the curved groove, causing a linear movement of the slide and the at least one bolt or bolt connector coupled thereto. In contrast to traditional systems, this design minimizes the lateral or sideways movement of the mechanism inside the espagnolette that is operated with the handle, allowing for a more compact design of the frame in which the espagnolette is mounted. Suitably the adjustment mechanism comprises a rackandpinion having one pinion and two racks that contact the pinion on opposite sides of the pinion, wherein one of the racks is coupled to the slide so that a movement of the slide translates to motion of the two racks in opposite directions. Preferably the racks are linked to a first bolt or bolt connector and a second bolt or bolt connector respectively, so that the espagnolette is between said first bolt or bolt connector and said second. bolt or bolt connector. Since the espagnolette usually drives two locking rods, this is an effective way of driving the rods with the first and second bolt in opposite directions into and out of the locking points externally of the frame in which the espagnolette is mounted. Preferably the cam comprises a receptacle for a crank pin of the handle. Desirably the handle shares with the crank pin a rotation point, wherein the handle is rotatable relative to the crank pin around said rotation point within a limited angular range, such as between 0 and 30 degrees, thereby providing room for a users hand when operating the handle. _ 3 _ Preferably the espagnolette further comprises a compression spring positioned between the handle and the crank pin, wherein the compression spring is configured to exert a biasing force that urges the handle back to an essentially' perpendicular position with reference to the crank pin. The invention will now be further elucidated with reference to the drawing of several figures representing a nonlimiting example of the espagnolette of the invention, wherein: - figure la and lb respectively show the espagnolette in its locked position and its unlocked position; - figure 2a and figure 2b respectively show the espagnolette in its locked and unlocked positions, with the adjustment mechanism in its locked and unlocked positions; - figure 3a and figure 3b show the adjustment mechanism in its locked and unlocked positions, respectively, with the orientation of the cam in its locked and unlocked positions, and together with the applied a rack and pinion; ° figure 4a and figure 4b show the handle in different orientations with reference to a crank pin coupled to the handle. Whenever the same reference numerals are used in the figures, they refer to the same parts. Referring to Figures 1 and 2, the espagnolette comprises a handle 100 configured to move the espagnolette between a locked and unlocked position. The handle is operatively connected to at least one bolt or bolt connector 301, 302, which can extend or retract by means of an adjustment mechanism 200 to lock or unlock a door or window. The handle 100 is rotatable relative to a main body of the espagnolette, and the adjustment mechanism facilitates the extension or retraction of the bolt or bolt connectors which are connectable or connected. to rods that _ 4 _ engage with one or more locking points along the edge of the door or window frame, typically at the top and / or bottom. As illustrated in Figures 3a and 3b, the adjustment mechanism 200 is operatively connected to the handle 100 and is linked to at least one bolt or bolt connector 301, 302 that is connectable to a locking rod or rods for the door or window. The adjustment mechanism comprises a rotatable cam 201 and a slide 202, with the slide being coupled to at least one bolt or bolt connector 301, 302. The cam 201 is rotatable between locked and unlocked positions. The cam 201 has a protrusion 203 positioned within a curved groove 204 of the slide 202. Rotation of the cam 201 moves the protrusion 203 along the curved groove 204, causing a linear movement of the slide 202, which in turn moves the bolt or bolt connector 301, 302 that when installed in a frame of a window or door are connected to locking rods in the frame. In one embodiment, the adjustment mechanism further comprises a rackandpinion 210 having a pinion 211 and two racks 212. The racks engage with the pinion 211 on opposite sides. One of the racks 212 is coupled to the slide 202 so that the linear movement of the slide 202 results in a corresponding linear movement of the two racks 212, but in opposite directions. This configuration allows to secure the door or window at multiple points along its frame. Figure 4 illustrates an embodiment of the handle 100, where the handle is slightly rotatable towards the user to allow for an easier grip on the handle 100 by the user. The handle 100 is connected. to a crank pin. 101 and. shares therewith a rotation point 102. The handle 100 is rotatable relative to the crank pin 101 within a limited angular range, such as between 0 and 30 degrees, allowing easy access for the hand of the user behind the handle. _ 5 _ Preferably there is a compression spring 103 positioned between the handle 100 and the crank pin 101. The compression spring 103 exerts a biasing force urging the handle 100 to return back to its perpendicular orientation with reference to the crank pin 101. Although the invention has been discussed in the foregoing with reference to an exemplary embodiment of the espagnolette of the invention, the invention is not restricted to this particular embodiment which can be varied in many ways without departing from the invention. The discussed exemplary embodiment shall therefore not be used to construe the appended claims strictly in accordance therewith. On the contrary the embodiment is merely intended to explain the wording of the appended claims without intent to limit the claims to this exemplary embodiment. The scope of protection of the invention shall therefore be construed in accordance with the appended claims only, wherein a possible ambiguity in the wording of the claims shall be resolved using this exemplary embodiment. Aspects of the invention are itemized in the following section. 1. An espagnolette for a door or window, comprising a handle (100) and an adjustment mechanism (200) coupled to the handle (100), the adjustment mechanism (200) being linked to at least one bolt or bolt connector (301, 302) that are arranged to drive a rod or rods to secure a closure of the door or window, characterized in that the adjustment mechanism (200) comprises a rotatable cam (201) and a slide (202) which is coupled to the at least one bolt or bolt connector (301, 302), wherein the cam is rotatable between a locked position and an unlocked position, said cam (201) comprising a protrusion (203) that is positioned in a curved groove (204) of the slide (202), wherein rotation of the cam (201) drives the protrusion (203) along the curved groove (204), causing a linear movement of the slide (202) and the at least one bolt or bolt connector (301, 302) coupled _ 6 _ thereto. 2. The espagnolette according to claim 1, characterized in that the adjustment mechanism (200) comprises a rackand pinion (210) having one pinion (211) and two racks (212) that contact the pinion (211) on opposite sides of the pinion (211), wherein one of the racks (212) is coupled to the slide (202) so that the movement of the slide (202) translates to motion of the racks (212) in opposite directions. 3. The espagnolette according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the racks (212) are linked to a first bolt or bolt connector (301) and a second bolt or bolt connector (302) respectively, wherein the espagnolette is between said first bolt or bolt connector (301) and said second bolt or bolt connector (302). 4. The espagnolette according to any one of claims 1 3, characterized in that the cam (201) comprises a receptacle (205) for a crank pin (101) of the handle (100). 5. The espagnolette according to claim 4, characterized in that the handle (100) is operatively coupled with the crank pin (101) and shares a rotation point (102) with the crank pin (101), wherein the handle (100)) is configured to be rotatable relative to the crank pin (101 around the rotation point (102) within a limited angular range, such as between 0 and 30 degrees, thereby providing room for a users hand to grip the handle (100). 6. The espagnolette according to any one of claims 4 or 5, characterized in that the espagnolette further comprises a compression spring (103) positioned between the handle (100) and the crank pin (101), wherein the compression spring (103) is configured to exert a biasing force that urges the handle (100) back to an essentially perpendicular position with reference to the crank pin (101). _ 7 _
Claims
1. An espagnolette for a door or window, comprising a lever (100) and an adjustment mechanism (200) coupled to the lever (100), to which the adjustment mechanism (200) is connected is attached to at least one bolt or bolt connector (301, 302) which is configured to drive a rod or rods to a to effect the closing of the door or window, characterized because the adjustment mechanism (200) has a rotatable cam (201) and a slider (202) which is linked to at least one bolt or bolt connector (301, 302), where the cam is rotatable between a locked position and an unlocked position, where the said ridge (201) includes a projection (203) positioned in a curved groove (204) of the slide (202), where the rotation of the cam (201) the projection (203) along the curved groove (204) moves, causing linear motion of the slide (202) and of the one coupled to it bolt or bolt connector (301, 302) is caused.
2. The espagnolette according to claim 1, characterized because the adjustment mechanism (200) has a rack and pinion pinion system (210) includes with one pinion (211) and two rack gears (212) opposite the pinion (211) contacting the sides of the pinion (211), where one of the rack gears (212) are coupled to the slide (202) so that the movement of the slide (202) is converted into a movement of the racks (212) in opposite directions.

The espagnolette within the meaning of claim 1 or 2, characterized because the racks (212) are connected to a first bolt or bolt connector (301) respectively a second bolt or bolt connector (302), where the espagnolette between the mentioned first bolt or bolt connector (301) and the second bolt mentioned or bolt connector (302) is located.
