Abstract

M A battery system includes: a plurality of batteries; a switch arrangement electrically connected to each battery wherein the switch arrangement is configured to connect the batteries in parallel or to disconnect the batteries from one another; a plurality of DC-DC converters, whereby each converter is operatively connected to a different battery; and a control system operatively connected to the switch arrangement and converters, wherein the control system is configured to implement a plurality of modes, wherein the plurality of modes include: a low-voltage discharge mode whereby the control system utilises the switch arrangement to connect the batteries in parallel to power one or more loads with the parallel-connected batteries, and a high-voltage charging mode whereby the control system utilises the converters to charge the batteries, when a power source is connected to the converters, whereby the control system implements active battery balancing function for the batteries by utilising the converters. …
