Abstract
The invention relates to a method for controlling an ethylene concentration and carbon dioxide concentration in a plurality of ethylene and carbon dioxide sensitive produce storage chambers according to predetermined requirements, in particular for cold storage chambers for storing kiwi fruit, persimmons, flowers and flower bulbs in a warehouse. The method comprises circulating air from a storage chamber of the plurality of ethylene and carbon dioxide sensitive produce storage chambers through activated carbon, wherein the ethylene and carbon dioxide concentration of the circulating air from said storage chamber is determined, and returning ethylene and carbon dioxide depleted air to the respective storage chamber. The active carbon is desorbed in a desorbing step. The conditions of the adsorbing step for each produce storage chamber are adjusted depending on the determined concentrations of ethylene and carbon dioxide in the respective produce storage chamber compared to predetermined reference values thereof.
