Setup and method for treating the surface of a product

l 8 The invention concerns a device for treating the surface of a product, such as a pipe surface, and a method for doing so. The device comprises a blasting chamber designed to receive at least part of the product and to treat the surface in that chamber, and a blaster installed in or connected to the blasting chamber for producing a stream of abrasive materials blasted at high speed onto the surface to be treated.The blast chamber is equipped with at least one wall containing an opening through which a part of the product protrudes, where at least one opening is fitted with a closing mechanism comprising at least one closing element, for defining a passage that occupies at least part of the opening and is designed to enclose the part of the product in the opening, where the passage is adjustable because at least one closing element is movable relative to the opening. The blast chamber may be equipped with two walls, each containing an opening. Furthermore, at least part of an edge of the passage may be fixed, whereby possibly at least part of a lower edge segment of the passage, viewed in a vertical direction, may be fixed.
