Systems and methods for refining common speed mapping and navigation

Abstract

A mapping server may include a processor configured to: receive drive information collected from vehicles that traversed a road segment, the drive information comprising an indication of a first speed-affecting landmark and a second speed-affecting landmark; determine a speed segment, as a subsection of the road segment, based on the first and second speed-affecting landmarks, wherein the drive information received from each of the vehicles further includes one or more indicators of vehicle speed within the speed segment; determine, based on the one or more indicators of vehicle speed, an aggregated common speed profile for the speed segment; store the aggregated common speed profile in an autonomous vehicle road navigation model associated with the speed segment; and distribute the autonomous vehicle road navigation modelto one or more autonomous vehicles for use in navigating along the speed segment.
