Strategic treatment of pressure ulcer using sub-epidermal moisture values

Abstract

A method of identifying a risk of developing pressure ulcers in a subject, comprising: a) evaluating a condition of said subject based on a first evaluation of: i) a plurality of pressure injury risk factors, ii) a plurality of signs of skin damage or pressure injury of at least one body location of said subject, said first evaluation of said plurality of signs of skin damage or pressure injury comprising performing a first sub-epidermal moisture (SEM) scan of said at least one body location of said subject, iii) a nutrition level of said patient, and iv) a current intervention; b) identifying a delta value based on said first SEM scan; c) assigning a risk level to said subject based on said delta value and said first evaluation; d) identifying an intervention level corresponding to said risk level and performing SEM scans at a predetermined frequency corresponding to said risk level. The method further comprises after identifying said intervention, evaluating said condition of said subject based on a second evaluation of: i) said plurality of pressure injury risk factors, ii) said plurality of physical signs of skin damage or pressure injury of said at least one body location of said subject comprising said SEM scans, iii) a nutrition level of said patient, and iv) said intervention.
