Hidden flange child resistant closure for recloseable pouch and methods

Abstract

A recloseable package (20) includes a recloseable zipper (24) with interlocking profiles (44, 48). At least one of the profiles has a grasping flange (61) integral with an attachment flange (64). A free end (74) of the grasping flange is located between terminal ends (38, 40) of opposite sidewalls (26, 28) and the interlocking profiles. The grasping flange is freely movable and unattached to the package along a complete distance between the sidewall edges. With the package in a closed condition, a surface (50) of the grasping flange is positioned to be opposing and movable to be directly against a surface (66) of the attachment flange. The package provides a closure that increases the difficulty for children to open while remaining easy to open for adults and senior citizens.
