Abstract

The present invention relates to a passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) buoy (4), a system comprising a network of said PAM buoys, and a method for permanent, real-time PAM monitoring (1) of an aquatic environment, wherein the PAM system (1) comprises a network of two or more surface PAM buoys (4) communicating either wirelessly or via cable with one or more local network and internet servers, which allows the location of the sound source (8) to be established, the underwater acoustic signals emitted to be captured, transmitted wirelessly to local network and internet servers, and processed either on said servers or processed beforehand in the processor of each buoy, to identify the sound source and its location, and further comprises a web platform that allows one or more users to view specific characteristics of each PAM buoy (4) and configure both hardware and software.
