COMPOSITION AND METHOD FOR THE REMEDIATION OF CONTAMINANTS WITH PFAS

Abstract

The remediation solution for PFAS contaminants and C4-C12 variants of these PFAS contaminants consists of an aqueous solution containing 4% of an IVEY surfactant mixture and 0.20% by volume of ethanol. The ethanol is a reagent in the solution. The IVEY surfactant mixture has molecules with an extensible hydrophilic portion. The remediation solution reduces the capillary effect in the soil, increasing drainage. The remediation solution reduces the aggregation of water molecules and lowers the interfacial surface tension of water and PFAS contaminants. When used to decontaminate AFFF manufacturing equipment, the solution and remediation method described here have achieved a 99.99998% reduction in contamination for twelve PFAS analytes.
