Abstract
The present technology demonstrates a hydrolysis process of lignocellulosic biomass to produce hydrolysates with high xylose content while maintaining the glucose content at low levels with minimum amounts of acetic acid and furans released in the process. The composition of the hydrolysate is suitable for fermentation processes that preferentially bioconvert the xylose sugar to xylitol while the low amounts of glucose is used for biomass formation and maintenance.
