Abstract
Description
A VENTILATION ASSEMBLY AND A DUCT THEREOFTECHNICAL FIELDThe present subject matter relates generally to a ventilation assembly and aduct member for a vehicle. More particularly but not exclusively, the presentsubject matter relates to a ventilation assembly and a duct member for a three5 wheeled vehicle.BACKGROUNDConventionally, passenger variant or cargo variant of three or four wheeledvehicles are semi-open type which are less comfortable than ideal design for avehicle as they may expose the occupants to unnecessary pollutants, noises,10 environmental elements such as rains and excessive cold or heat. Thus, several modern three wheelers and even four wheelers are focusing ondesigns that prevent such discomforts to the users by providing a closed cabindesign with user operated windows or half doors at the least. Suchconventional vehicles do not have an effective provision for ventilation,15 either in cabin compartment or in passenger compartment. Requirement ofventilation becomes more essential when the cabin compartment or thepassenger compartment is provided with doors, half-doors or windows. Whenthese doors, half-doors or windows are completely closed, due to bad weatheror other disturbances, there is no scope for natural ventilation in the closed20 cabin design. Further, the provision of air conditioning systems in three-wheeler or four wheeled cargo vehicles would be economically unfeasibleowing to the segment of customers involved in purchasing of three wheelersand four wheeled cargo vehicles. However, the need of economic, compact and effective ventilation system is25 not only limited to three wheelers but also in four wheelers and multi-axlevehicles such as trucks, mini-vans, buses, etc. Also, conventional vehicles introduce air inside cabin through a limitedwindow opening area, only when windows are opened. This may also allowSTLO939259R2024CVR 25 Sep 2024 01:52:05 PM IFormality Examination Report --A VENTILATION ASSEMBLY AND A DUCT THEREOF (1-2024-50326).pdfdust and water into the cabin. When the vehicle is moving at slower speed, this opening area is insufficient to provide comfort to the user.Particularly during the rainy season, conventional vehicles owing to theireconomic feasibility design are not equipped with complex and expensive air5 conditioning system. Further, owing to external harsh conditions, the usersare forced to draw their windows which creates suffocation and / or humidcondition inside the cabin space of the vehicle.Additionally, during normal operative environments of vehicles used inpublic transport, there exists a persistent feeling of suffocation owing to10 crowding in the cabin space. In this scenario, the ventilation provided 1slimited to the area or space opened to the environment. In conventional vehicle layouts relating to four wheeled passenger vehicles, the four wheeled passenger vehicles have bonnet in front of cabincompartment which offers lot of space to package multiple units of heating,15 ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system such as air duct, air blower, condenser / radiator, evaporator, cooling hoses, etc. But for three wheeledvehicles or some types of four wheeled cargo vehicles there are inherentspace constraints and it is a challenge to package ventilation system in aconstrained space.20 Apart from this, HVAC system in four wheeled vehicles not only increasesthe cost and weight of the vehicle but also consumes energy from the primemover of the vehicle which reduces the mileage of the vehicle. But invehicles such as three-wheeled vehicles involved in public transport, mileageis very important and hence we cannot increase load on engine.25 Therefore, there is a need of an improved ventilation system whichovercomes the above cited problems of the prior art and which is simple,light-weight, economical, cost-effective, offers ease of serviceability andprovide an effective packaging efficiency.STLO0939259R2024CVR 25 Sep 2024 01:52:05 PM 2Formality Examination Report --A VENTILATION ASSEMBLY AND A DUCT THEREOF (1-2024-50326). pdfBRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGSThe details are described with reference to an embodiment of a ventilationassembly and a duct member for a vehicle along with the accompanyingfigures. The one or more second inletopenings (2010) of the inlet member (201) are snap fitted with the one ormore first duct openings (2021) of the duct member (202). This reducesassembly time at manufacturing level and cost associated with incorporationof separate fasteners. Further, this ensures ease of repair, serviceability andmaintenance. The embodiments shown in Figure 7 illustrate a side perspective view of aninlet member (201) of a ventilation assembly (200) in one embodiment of theinvention. The inlet member (201) is configured to receive air from anexterior of the vehicle (100) through the one or more first inlet openings(2011) and to transmit the air into duct member (202) through the one or moresecond inlet openings (2010).The embodiments shown in Figure 8 and Figure 9 are taken together fordiscussion. Figure 8 illustrates a top perspective view of a ventilationassembly (200) in one embodiment of the invention. The embodiments shownin Figure 9 illustrates a sectional view of a ventilation assembly (200) alongan axis G-G shown in Figure 8. The ventilation assembly (200) comprises aninlet member (201), a duct member (202) and an adjuster member (203). Theduct member (202) is snap-fitted on the inlet member (201). This reducesassembly time at manufacturing level and cost associated with incorporationof separate fasteners. Theadjuster member (203) is snap fitted on the duct member (202). The axis G-Gis illustrated in figure 8. A cross section (A;) of the one or more first inletopenings (2011) is wider than a cross section (Az) of the one or more secondinlet openings (2010).A cross section (A3) of the one or more first duct openings (2021) is widerthan a cross section (A,) of the one or more second duct openings (2020). Theduct member (202) is snap-fitted on the inlet member (201). The adjustermember (203) is also snap-fitted on the duct member (202). The one or moresecond duct openings (2020) are provided in a downstream portion (202d) ofthe duct member (202). As can be seen the cross section (Al) of the one ormore first inlet openings (2011) is much wider than the cross section (A2) ofthe one or more second inlet openings(2010). By virtue of Venturi principleand Bernoulli’s theorem this ensures that the air coming out of the one ormore second inlet openings (2010) have a higher speed than the air that entersthe one or more first inlet openings (2011). This helps in effective and speedytravel of the air through the duct member (202) and consequently to theinterior of the vehicle (100). Similar differences in cross section (A3) of theone or more first duct openings (2021) and the one or more second ductopenings (2020) also provide the further impetus to the speedy and effectiveflow of air from the inlet member (201) to the interior of the vehicle (100).The various embodiments of disclosed invention provide a system forventilation. Ventilation system, as disclosed, works on the principles ofnatural ventilation and does not run upon any power derived from energysource of vehicle. Therefore, vehicle mileage remains unaffected. The bentangle of the components, particularly the duct member (202) and the inletmember (201) ensures that external dust or water or other environmentalimpurities do not easily enter the ventilation system. The configuration andorientation of the ventilation assembly (200) ensures an effective packagingefficiency because it can be installed in multiple portions of the vehicle (100)without interfering with other parts. For example, the embodiment shown inSTLO0939259R2024CVR 25 Sep 2024 01:52:05 PM I 9Formality Examination Report --A VENTILATION ASSEMBLY AND A DUCT THEREOF (1-2024-50326). pdfthe Figures shows the ventilation assembly (200) installed in the front portionof the vehicle (100) without interfering with the front fender assembly. Thecompact nature of the invention also ensures easy integration with known orpre-existing ventilation systems. It is also aesthetically appeasing as air inletis not visible at exterior of vehicle. Components used are light weight, simpleand their manufacturing is economical and cost-effective.Further, if the HVAC system is used in a three or four-wheeler, then theventilation assembly (200) can be used as air blower in the “blower mode’ ofthe HVAC system. Thus, the proposed invention can easily be integrated withexisting HVAC systems and no additional HVAC systems like cooling fan, condenser, evaporator, etc would be required.Proposed invention can also reduce the power load in an HVAC system for athree or four-wheeler. as forced air flow from the fan of the HVAC systemcan be assisted by natural air flow by this ventilation assembly (200).Components used in the ventilation assembly (200) are relatively less innumber and light weight because use of materials such as polymer, resin etc. This leads to weight reduction and cost reduction in comparison to knownHVAC systems which are bulkier and heavier. The interior of vehicle (100)becomes comfortable for the driver as well as for the passengers. Ease ofserviceability is enhanced as the the inlet member (201) and the duct member(202) can be assembled, disassembled and replaced easily. The present theventilation assembly (200) can also be easily configured to accommodateaccording to an accurate position of the user body at which air should beblown. The embodiments of this invention are not limited to particularly threewheeled vehicle and can cover any type of vehicle involving ventilationsystem.
