Generating a binary kinoform zone plates

Abstract

A binary kinoform zone plate is composed of transmissive zones and absorbing zones. Light is constructively diffracted from the zone plate and focused to a screen. The binary kinoform zone plate is a diffracting optical device that progressively shifts the phase of light per zones in order to increase the diffraction efficiency. The invention utilized the optimized efficiency of the kinoform zone plate profile, by converting it into binary form, through the deduction of the transmission function of the kinoform.
