Sliding seismic isolator with flexible fuse breakaway system

Abstract

A sliding seismic isolator with a flexible fuse breakaway system is provided in which while allowing tilt between an upper structure and a lower structure, a displacement limiting step can be provided without leaving any space to allow for constant displacement such as expansion and contraction of a bridge top plate in a direction perpendicular to a bridge axis, wind load, or tilt tolerance, so that no impact force due to acceleration acts, reducing risk of damage to the seismic isolator. The sliding seismic isolator with the flexible fuse breakaway system includes the flexible fuse breakaway system that is installed either between a first member and a second member, between the first member and a sliding support block, or between the second member and the sliding support block, elastically supports the two installed members while allowing constant horizontal displacement and tilt in the direction perpendicular to the bridge axis, and absorbs seismic energy while breaking when an earthquake occurs.
