Salt Production Module

Abstract

The Salt Production Module is a modular, elevated drying system designed for salt farmers, consisting of a bamboo and good lumber frame, removable HDPE trays, fine mesh filters, wooden enclosures, and a foldable polycarbonate cover. The frame serves as the structural support, elevated from the ground to prevent contamination and promote airflow. Attached to the frame are three (3) wooden enclosures that hold the trays and filters in place. Each enclosure contains removable black HDPE trays used for salt crystallization and capable of holding up to seven (7) liters of seawater. Positioned directly beneath each tray is a fine mesh filter framed with wood strips that drains excess seawater into a recovery container for reuse. The top of the module is covered with a clear twin-wall polycarbonate sheet designed in a truncated flat-top shape, which is rain-resistant and foldable via hinges. The cover protects the salt from external contaminants while trapping heat inside to speed up the drying process. The design is portable, does not require electricity or heavy machinery, and is ideal for climate-resilient, low-cost, and sustainable salt production in coastal agricultural communities.
