Bioassay test set-up for live, small, and mobile test organisms

Abstract

This utility model presents a novel method for constructing a standardized bioassay test set-up specifically for live, small, and highly mobile test organisms. It solves the core challenges of maintaining confinement and adequate ventilation simultaneously during toxicity or virulence screening. The method involves modifying a standard transparent plastic petri plate. A 12mm hole is drilled in the bottom plate, and a fine stainless steel wire mesh (150 mesh, 25mm) is affixed over the opening. This mesh serves as a robust, escape-proof barrier while ensuring essential air exchange. A sterile filter paper, treated with the test chemical or microorganism, is placed on the inner top cover to act as the organism substrate and treatment application site. This specialized, enclosed set-up streamlines the entire workflow, simplifying the application of treatments, handling, observation, and safe disposal of test organisms. It provides a reliable and cost-effective method for accurately assessing the toxicity and virulence of agents in various biological studies.
