Abstract
The present utility model relates to a method of extraction of lignocellulosic textile fibers from the Philippine indigenous bamboo Bayog (Dendrocalamus merillianus) using an alkali-based mechanochemical extraction process specifically, the method comprising the steps of: cutting the culms; cleaving the cut culms into slats; alkali retting of the cleaved slats; defibrillating the retted slats; extracting fibers from the defibrillated slats; neutralizing the extracted fibers; rinsing the neutralized fiber; removing the excess water from the rinsed fiber; and air drying of the rinsed fiber.
