Abstract
The present utility model discloses the method of producing a hydroponic cultivation nutrient solution from worm castings applicable for high-value leafy vegetable crops. The process starts with the preparation of unchlorinated water, then adding the pure worm castings or vermicast. The pure vermicast was brewed for at least 72 hours in the unchlorinated water with periodic mixing. The brewed vermicast was collected through filtration using a 250-mesh sack cloth or bag. The utilization o increased concentration of vermicast and prolonged brewing time results to a hydroponic nutrient solution enriched with sufficient amounts of essential macronutrients including Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P2O5), Potassium (K2O), Sodium (Na), Calcium (Ca), and Magnesium (Mg) and neutral pH (7.0) value despite the innate high alkalinity of vermicast (≥pH 8.0). The vermicast tea hydroponic nutrient solution is cost-effective, requires readily available materials, can be prepared manually, and highly applicable as nutrient solution for hydroponic cultivation use.
