Linear indexing guide

Abstract

A linear indexing guide comprising a pair of solid metal members each formed with a U-shaped upper portion and solid throughout a lower portion, a connecting member welded to the lower portions of the metal members to secure the members in a horizontally stacked configuration, a longitudinal gap maintained therebetween by the connecting member, an internally threaded hole provided in a lower face of one metal member, and a hex bolt screwably engaged with the internally threaded hole for securing a measuring instrument within the longitudinal gap. Conventional measuring and marking tools require manual alignment of a measuring instrument against a workpiece, which may allow unintended movement during marking. The objective of the utility model is to provide a linear indexing guide that maintains a measuring instrument in a fixed positional relationship relative to a workpiece to facilitate transfer of linear measurements and straight reference lines.
