Abstract
The present utility model relates to a process of producing a plant-based molluscicide from mahogany (Swietenia mahogany L.) seed leachate as an ecofriendly alternative to synthetic molluscicides for the control of Golden Apple Snail (Pomacea canaliculata Lamarck) in rice cultivation. The process comprises dehulling mature mahogany seeds, grinding, mixing with tap water at a ratio of 1:9 (w / v), and soaking the mixture for twenty-four (24) hours to extract the bioactive compounds. The resulting leachate, when applied at 100% concentration, demonstrated effective molluscicidal activity under laboratory conditions. This innovation provides a simple, cost-efficient, and sustainable method of pest management, contributing to safer agricultural practices and reduced environmental risks.
