PROCESS OF PRODUCING ASTHMA PLANT (Euphorbia hirta L.) AQUEOUS EXTRACT BIOHERBICIDE

Abstract

This utility model discloses a process for producing a bioherbicide from the aqueous extract of the asthma plant (Euphorbia hirta L.) for controlling cogon grass (Imperata cylindrica L.), a globally invasive weed. The process comprises soaking asthma plant material in unchlorinated water at a 10:90 (w / v) ratio for 24 hours to extract bioactive compounds, followed by filtration to obtain the final herbicidal preparation. No specialized equipment or facilities are required, rendering the process reproducible at the farm level. Laboratory evaluations demonstrate that the extract effectively suppresses cogon grass rhizome germination. The resulting bioherbicide serves as an environmentally safe and economically viable alternative to synthetic herbicides, suitable for integration into sustainable agricultural weed management programs.
