Fraud prevention system for pay telephones operating in a telephone network

Abstract

A fraud prevention system for pay telephones operating in a telephone network comprising: one or more first fraud detection modules (200), each for installation in a pay telephone (100), and one or more second fraud detection modules (300), each for installation in a telephone network exchange (120) servicing one or more of the pay telephone (100) in which a first fraud detection module (200) is installed. The first fraud detection module (200) installed in the telephone is adapted to transmit to the telephone network exchange (120) to which the pay telephone network exchange (120) to which the pay telephone (100) is connected, first security information when the pay telephone is in an OFF-HOOK state, and second security information when appropriate payment for making a call is validated. Each second fraud detection module (300) is adapted to inhibit a call proceeding if one or both the first and second security information are not received.
