Abstract
Urea is the largest consumed fertilizers in the world. It has played a significant role in the many fold increase in food production that feeds the world today. Urea dissolves swiftly in presence of moisture. However, through leaching and volatilization approximately 50% is lost and is never consumed by the plants. Coating particles or granules of urea with sulfur results in the formation of a membrane that regulates the availability of nitrogen for plant growth and reduces the tosses. Sulfur Coated Urea (SCU) is a slow-release fertilizer that enhances nitrogen use efficiency, promotes plant growth and reduces water pollution compared to un-coated urea. Sulfur Coated Urea reduces frequency of application, thereby reducing the total cost, and improves crop quality by supplying sulfur, which acidifies the soil as sulfuric acid and is ultimately consumed by the crops. As a controlled / slow release fertilizer; Sulfur coated urea (SCU) combines the benefits of both nitrogen and sulfur fertilizers. The most commonly used method for producing Sulfur coated urea (SCU) involves melting sulfur and pouring it over pure urea. However, the conventional method of manufacturing Sulfur coated urea (SCU) is not only expensive but also poses several operational hazards. The present invention relates to a novel process called "Process of Urea Coating," which involves coating urea with elemental sulfur using a blend of adhesives to reduce nitrogen losses and create sulfur-coated urea (SCU). This process regulates the release of urea. The adhesives used include Corn starch. Calcium sulfate, Gaur Gum, Gum Rosin. The adhesive blend is applied in a drum granulator, where it completely covers the surface of the urea. Subsequently, Sulfur is poured into the vessel, adhering to the urea particle.
