Method and device for the production of steel pipes with particular characteristics

Abstract

Method for the production o f pipes from steel with increased strength and improved toughness of the material by means of immediate rapid cooling following hot forming, particularly after forming by means of stretch reduction, wherein, in each case within a time period o f at most 20 s after the last forming at a temperature of more than 700°C yet less than 1050°C, a coolant is applied continuously at high pressure to the external surface o f the pipe circumferentially over a length of more than 400-times the pipe wall thickness in an amount which effects a uniform cooling rate during the rapid cooling of greater than l°C / s of the pipe wall over the pipe length to a temperature in the range from 500°C to 250°C, whereupon a further cooling of the pipe to room temperature takes place.
