New process for the synthesis of ivabradine and addition salts thereof with a pharmaceutically acceptable acid

Abstract

Process for the synthesis of ivabradine of formula (I): and addition salt thereof with a pharmaceutically acceptable acid, characterised in thdb the compound of formula (VI): is subjected to the action of a thiol in an organicsolvent to form the hemithioacetal of formula (VUK which is subjected to a cyclisation reaction to yield the compound of formula (VIII): which is subjected to a reduction reaction to yield ivabradine of formula (I), which may optionally be converted into addition salt thereof with a pharmaceutically acceptable acid.
