Abstract
The invention relates to process of preparing ethyl ester (biodiesel) which comprises the following steps: 0.44% of potassium hydroxide was dissolved in 16.59% of ethanol by constant shaking until it became completely clear; 5 liters of Brassica campestris oil containing triglycerides was taken in a 10 liters conical flask and KOH and ethanol solution was gently poured in the flask; using a large size stirrer magnet for stirring in the flask, the flask mouth was tightly covered with a cork to prevent the loss of ethanol; the mixture was stirred for 4 hours; the following reaction took place. After stirring the mixture for 24 hours constantly at room temperature, the mixture was allowed to settle down. Due to gravity, two separate layers became visible; the glycerin formed the below layer and ethyl ester formed the above layer. The above clear amber yellow layer was collected.
